Yogiraj Lahiri Baba

Yogiraj Lahiri Baba

Yogiraj Lahiri Baba was born on 30 September 1828 in Bengal, India. Following the example of his mother, he prayed and meditated from an early age. After the early death of his mother, at the age of five he moved with his father to the holy city of Varanasi (Benares). After completing his formal education, he founded a family and worked as a senior office clerk.

Shri Lahiri Mahasaya was entrusted with a unique life task. Designated by Babaji to do this, he served as a model for modern man, illustrating by his own example that a spiritual lifestyle is not merely a myth, but that the Self can be realized in every life situation. In 1861 Babaji called him to the Himalayas and initiated him into Kriya Yoga. Although he was very attracted to the monastic way of life, he returned to his worldly life at the behest of Babaji and dedicated every moment to the spiritual elevation of human consciousness. His true and exemplary life gives us the message that no matter what situation we find ourselves in, we can all transform our precious lives and apply the universal truth of Kriya Yoga practice in our daily lives. Like Lahiri Mahasaya’s life, our life should be a perfect reflection of the truth.
